We want to inform you about an upcoming change to our two-factor authentication (2FA) options.
In our continuous efforts to enhance security and user experience, we have decided to discontinue SMS as an option for two-factor authentication, starting at the end of November. We understand that this may be an inconvenience for some of our users, but we believe that this decision will ultimately improve the overall security and reliability of your Lorex account.
Why are we discontinuing SMS as a 2FA method?
Security is our top priority, and SMS-based 2FA has been found to have some vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities include SIM swapping and phishing attacks, which could potentially put your account at risk. To ensure the highest level of security for our users, we recommend switching to alternative 2FA methods, such as:
Email Authentication: You can opt to receive your authentication codes via email. This method provides a balance between security and convenience.
Authenticator Apps (currently supported on Android only): We strongly recommend using authenticator apps like Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator. These apps generate time-based one-time passwords (TOTPs) that are much more secure than SMS.
How to make the switch to a different 2FA method:
1. Log in to your Lorex app account.
2. From the app settings, visit the “Security” section in your “Account Settings”.
3. Select "Two-Step Verification Setup” and follow the prompts to set up your preferred method.
4. Verify your new 2FA method to ensure it's working correctly.
What happens if I don’t update my 2FA method by the end of November?
Accounts that don’t switch to a different 2FA method, will automatically have their 2FA disabled. Therefore, we recommend switching to a different method to maintain the security of your account.
