How can I optimize my camera's placement?

  • Consider what you want to monitor and find the best area for coverage.
  • Place the camera close to the area of interest.
  • Avoid placing the camera directly in front of obstructions like trees, bricks, rain gutters, or reflective surfaces.
  • Install the camera where it is difficult for thieves and vandals to reach.
  • Ensure the mounting surface can support at least 3× the camera’s weight.
  • The ideal position is about 10 ft/3 m above ground, angled 15° downward.
  • Secure the cables so they cannot be seen or easily cut.

How do I access footage from my phone?

To view the camera’s footage from your phone:

  1. Ensure that your DVR is connected to your home router (internet).
  2. Ensure that the cameras are properly connected to the DVR so that you can seamlessly view both live and recorded footage.
  3. Remotely access the footage using the DVR’s compatible app.

Follow the DVR’s guide to download the app and add the security system to your account.


How do I customize notifications?

The following steps are applicable to compatible recorders that use the Lorex App.

  1. In the Home screen, select your camera.
  2. Tap the ellipses (...) in the top right corner of the app.
  3. Select Notifications.
  4. Tap Slider Icon to enable Alert Notifications, Alert and Event Thumbnails, and / or Offline Notifications.
  5. Tap Notification Schedule to select a schedule for when you would like to receive notifications.

How do I enable Motion Detection?

The following steps are applicable to compatible recorders that use the Lorex App.

  1. In the Home screen, select your camera.
  2. Tap the ellipses (...) in the top right corner of the app.
  3. Select Motion Detection Settings.
  4. Tap Slider Icon to enable Motion Detection.

How do I enable Smart Motion Detection?

The following steps are applicable to compatible recorders that use the Lorex App.

  1. In the Home screen, select your camera.
  2. Tap the ellipses (...) in the top right corner of the app.
  3. Select Motion Detection Settings.
  4. Tap Slider Icon to enable Smart Motion Detection.

How do I change Motion Sensitivity?

The following steps are applicable to compatible recorders that use the Lorex App.

  1. In the Home screen, select your camera.
  2. Tap the ellipses (...) in the top right corner of the app.
  3. Select Motion Detection Settings.
  4. Select Motion Sensitivity.
  5. Choose 1 through 5, 1 being lowest sensivity and 5 being highest sensitivity.
  6. Tap Save.

How do I change Motion Sensitivity?

The following steps are applicable to compatible recorders that use the Lorex App.

  1. In the Home screen, select your camera.
  2. Tap the ellipses (...) in the top right corner of the app.
  3. Select Motion Detection Settings.
  4. Select Motion Zones™.
  5. Draw your desired Motion Zone.
  6. Tap Save.

How do I ensure my camera is continuously recording?

The following steps are applicable to compatible recorders that use the Lorex App.

  1. In the Home screen, select your camera.
  2. Tap the ellipses (...) in the top right corner of the app.
  3. Select Local Storage.
  4. Tap Slider Icon to enable Continuous Recording.

How do I create a recording schedule?

The following steps are applicable to compatible recorders that use the Lorex App.

  1. In the Home screen, select your camera.
  2. Tap the ellipses (...) in the top right corner of the app.
  3. Select Local Storage.
  4. Select Recording Schedule.
  5. Select the days and times you would like to record.

How do I change the viewing resolution to SD, HD?

The following steps are applicable to compatible recorders that use the Lorex App.

SD and HD are the possible viewing resolutions for your camera. SD refers to a lower viewing resolution which is idea for smooth viewing in lower internet speed conditions. HD refers to a higher definition viewing resolution. The following steps are applicable to compatible recorders that use the Lorex App.

  1. Tap Information Icon above the recorder's thumbnail.
  2. Select your camera.
  3. Tap the SD button in the liveview bar.
  4. Select the resolution that you would like to start viewing.

Why does my camera have a blurry picture?

If your camera’s picture appears blurry, make sure to remove any protective vinyl film from the lens. Clean the lens with a soft cloth to remove any dirt or dust. Ensure that the cable length falls within the recommended limits: 60 ft (18 m) for the included BNC cable, 200 ft (61 m) for ‘RG59’ or ‘Coax’ Siamese cables (for both video and power), and 800 ft (242 m) for ‘RG59’ or ‘Coax’ cables for video only.


When does night vision activate?

  • The night vision activates when light levels drop. The area may have too much light.

How do I avoid bright spots at night?

  • Night vision reflects when pointing a camera through a window. Move the camera to a different location.

How do I reduce false alerts?

First, manage notifications by scheduling them or snoozing alerts in the app’s or DVR’s settings. Then, optimize the camera’s performance by fine-tuning person and vehicle detection settings and drawing motion zones to receive alerts only for motion detected within those designated areas.

How do I setup Person and Vehicle Detection?

Go to the DVR’s settings for Events > Event Settings > Motion Detection > Smart Motion Detection. Enable ‘Person’ and ‘Vehicle’ detection, draw motion zones to create designated areas for detection, and choose how the system will react to detection events.
